Albert Einstein On the Internet.

One of the greatest minds of all time, Albert Einstein always wanted to find answers and unlike most of his colleagues he would actually go out of his way to get the answers rather than wait for the answers to come to him. His personality can accurately tell us his thoughts on just about anything. So what would such a genius with uncanny tastes think about the internet?

1. Shocked

Since he's been dead for a while now bringing him back to life would be the first thing somebody would have to do to ask him this question. He would be shocked looking at the existence of such a thing but his reason for being shocked would be different. He might say that he had already conceptualised such a communications system during his time. His reason for shock would be the ability of humanity to make his vision a reality. He might say "How did you do this without me?" His arrogance is beyond imagination and this would be very apparent in his conversations.

2. More answers required

After being brutally shocked, Einstein might start looking for the answers the was so desperate to know during his time. Accept the fact that the field of Physics hasn't moved ahead of e= mc^2 means that his questions will still be unanswered. This would lead him to the conclusion that the internet is a time waster with no actual use since well he ain't getting those answers. People like Einstein were purposefully born in their era cause that was the time when many things had not been invented and there was still a long way for human evolution knowledge wise. The only problem is we haven't been able to move much ahead of the inventions and theories from the era of the greats. Better yet he might go to the Wikipedia headquarters and ask for a job to fix all their answers and contribute more to the ever expanding website.

3. Whats that Selfie?

So Einstein wakes up from the dead and is asked about the internet. He's then given a smart phone and he soon finds Snapchat and Instagram. Surely his mind would wonder, "What do all these self portraits or in modern terms selfies mean?" Since the answer would be incredibly stupid, he might actually give it a shot. That's because Einstein was the kind of guy to try new things. Actually he would rather make new things for others to try. Eventually he would get bored of the selfie game and move on.

4. Its stupid

Admit it there have been times when you're sitting on Facebook and Twitter for a large part of your day and you know you're waisting you're time. Einstein might take this into consideration and say that since its just a waste of time, the internet is stupid and anybody who uses this thing is stupid. These statements don't seem very Einstein like but you have to understand that he was an arrogant mind. Proving him wrong at anything would drive him crazy. In fact his vision of humanity might not allow him to understand such advancement in technology leading him to believe how stupid the internet really is.

5. I love it

After being shocked, looking for answers, asking the out of the blue question and criticising the internet he would eventually fall in love with it. He might actually write a book or open a Facebook account expressing his thoughts about the 21st century. Since his era was the time where you documented everything with pen and paper his habits would still remain. Only this time it would go digital.

Albert Einstein was a genius with low grades in School. That was because he thought in ways that nobody else could think which is why he was able to achieve so many accolades and make so many breakthroughs. Obviously I haven't interviewed the genius but looking at his personality this is what I came up with.

What you Don't know about the internet?

The internet being simple is extremely complex and putting out any information on the internet will always remain there. But there are a few things internet experts don't want you to know.

1. Can it be switched off?

The answer is no. At least not on a worldwide scale. The internet does not have one common switch that can be just flipped and the entire world falls off the grid. Each country has many number of ISPs who control internet access for particular areas. The government of a country can shut down the internet in a country but shutting the internet worldwide is impossible. Even if the internet is shut down, internet experts will still be able to find a way to access it through satellites.

2. Does it affect the environment?

Sending an E-mail from one continent to another doesn't seem like an activity that will affect the environment but it does affect the carbon footprint. An estimate suggests that just the data base of the internet takes 152 billion kilowatt-hours to be powered continuously. Sending any kind of data across the internet is putting load on the system causing it to use more power. With people continuously sharing data across the internet data base, more and more power is being used affecting the environment and causing a huge impact on the environment.

3. Are there multiple internets?

Approximately 40 years ago during the inception of the internet, there were many number of internets and each internet was owned by a service provider. The problem with this model was the lack of connection between each internet. To solve this it was decided that there would be only one internet in the world allowing everybody to remain connected to each other. Today I am writing this article from India and it is being read by someone in the United States. This has been possible only because of one internet that connects all of us.

4. The dark side to the internet.

I myself wasn't very aware that there exists a dark internet known as Deep web or dark web. This section of the world wide web is not indexed by search engines and there is very good reason for this.  The deep web is said to be approximately 400-500 times bigger than the surface web but these figures are a very rough estimation. Websites that aren't indulging in illegal activities come under the Dark Internet category and websites with illegal activities are categorised under Deep Web. The dark internet is known to be growing rapidly. Due to this the dark internet is not quantifiable.

5. The internet also has black holes.

These black holes in the internet are similar to black holes in Space. If you send an email and it is not received on the other side then you might have run into one of these black holes. Like black holes in space, black holes of the internet eat up information in the form of losing packets of data. These losses can occur due to improper maintenance of cables or problems within the routers. Since the internet has such a large surface area to the point where it covers the entire Earth it is impossible to remove all these black holes. Distances are also a factor for losses of data but that problem has a much less occurrence because of ISPs (Internet Service Providers).

The last two facts mentioned in this blog weren't even known to me. After researching I was able to find these two unknown facts about the internet. These facts must be known to everybody that uses the internet.

5 things to know about the Lumia 640 and 640 XL!

I left the days behind where I would write about every single technology news story but that does not mean the industry doesn't intrigue me. Microsoft's two new devices the Microsoft Lumia 640 and 640XL have impressed me a lot. The specifications are available on any technology website you go to today but I would like to talk about 5 things you should know about these two devices.

Why smart watches didn't get the iPhone response?

2014 onwards we have seen a plathora of wearables that have stormed the tech market and sometimes it makes you wonder that is that realy useful? Would someone really want that? The Smart watch was touted as the device that would give you reactions that you got when you saw the iPhone in 2007. Even Apple has gone out of its way to venture into this new category.

The main aim of Technology is to make human life easier. The iPhone brought a combination of devices to the palm of your hand making it really easy for users to do a lot more from the palm of their hands. You could call the iPhone the Cyborg of phones in 2007 because it could do so much more. I think now companies are moving towards making people cyborgs by strapping these smartwatches on our hands and putting Virtual reality devices on our heads.

To think of it the smartwatch doesnt do anything more than what your phone can do. Thats the reason why it hasnt received that wow response that the iPhone got. The watch is just a smart watch but it does a lot more than what a normal watch can do. That sounds more iPhone like but you have to remember that there was nothing like what the iPhone could do during the time. It would be smarter for companies to realise that the smart watch category isn't as hot as the smartphone category.

According to a survey of 3000 people, 75% of those people would buy an iPhone for an Apple watch. It sounds crazy but the Apple brand has a lot of power in the market. So I am not overly surprised that the results of the Survey were such.

Why is technology so addictive?

We all use at least one smart device and are constantly on it. We never realise it but these devices are on us all the time and we are using them constantly. So whats the reason behind humans getting addicted to technology?

Humans are creatures who always look for answers. These devices generate a lot of questions whose answers can be found only after we use them. I am sure the first time you saw a laptop a question came to your mind, "What is this thing and how does it work?". Using the device got you the answer. It also made you realise that the device you are using is making your job easier. The same is true for cell phones.

After we have completely saturated the answer to the question we start looking for more things. This generates the next question. "What else can this device do?". Thats when open up to the world of apps. At this point there is no going back because you cannot experience everything available on the app store in a short time period.

Another reason is for the workaholic who always wants to work and be in contact with colleagues. This leads to an insane addiction to computers and mobile devices. Technology makes our lives easier. This is the sole reason for why we panic when we lose our mobile device. Loosing the comfort is scary for us.

This question came to my mind while installing a windows partition on my laptop. Made me think that I was wasting such a lot of time doing something that would give me almost nothing in return. The comments are open for your opinions. And as always.........

Companies that made it big from nothing.

Samsung

Samsung have been known as the Korean giants since they entered the phone market and switched to touch screens. But samsung has always been on the top in other product categories. Few people know what Samsung was when they first started.

The year was 1938. In a small area in Korea Samsung wasn't selling what you would expect it to sell. Instead of cell phones, computers and electronics, Samsung was dealing in Noodles and groceries. For sometime Samsung was showing its presence in textile and retail before they got into the electronics industry, shipbuilding and construction industry in  the 1960's till the 70s. They were doing well till Lee Byung-chul, the owner of Samsung passed away in 1987. After this the company split into the Samsung group, Shinsegae group, CJ group and Hansoi group.

The Samsung group is the only one that went on to become a multinational company. Dealing in electronics they are market leaders in many product categories. Samsung is most famous for their TV's and mobile devices worldwide.
Sony

Japan, today known for their self dependence was nothing after the world war. Everything was destroyed and the country had been written off. But there was one individual who wanted to do something incredible in this destroyed country.

Masaru Ibuka decided to establish Sony and their first product was a rice pressure cooker. Unfortunately the idea did not work out because it failed to cook the rice perfectly. It would either undercook the rice or overcook it. So he decided to ditch the product and started focusing on electricity. His first inspiration was the fact that electricity had become extremely cheap after the world war. I assumed that this guy was a man of trend. People would need food so he focused on making a pressure cooker. He focused on electronics as the price of electricity had reduced.

Its pretty good marketing strategy that anyone can implement today. Anyway Sony was making average profits with small electrical products but their game changer came after 9 years of hard work. The Sony TR-63 radio was the first successful transistor radio and the fortunes of this company gradually changed with this product. Industry sales grew from 100K in 1955 and reached 5 million in 1968.

Apple

Who doesn't know this company. It was the pinnacle of controversy in the technology industry and Steve Jobs was the face of everything that this company did since the beginning. The 80s was so radical that it was apt for the company to become famous in this year. People working for this company were crazy, hippies and people whom you wouldn't expect be there in this business.

They started in a small garage working day and night on the Apple 1 and waiting for people to invest in them. Finally when they got Mike markkula on board and the dream kick started. Off course everyone knows what happened with the company in the following years. The Jobs vs Gates phase that was so iconic that books were written on the rivalry and they often threatened to sue each other for various reasons. Finally these companies became superpowers in the technology industry. Apple was also the most valuable company of 2013 which is a big achievement for a company like Apple.

The average joe might feel that Apple might be like those other big offices with a 9-5 job time but no, the people in this company have so much drive that they can work even overnight and still be satisfied and happy. Apple today represents innovation but recent years have caused Apple to take no risky steps. After losing Jobs who was the main driving force behind the company, it was difficult to get someone with the same drive for perfection. Jobs had the ability to see the future of a device presented to him. If he liked it, it was surely going to be a hit.

Even without him Apple's products are still so popular it looks like Steve's soul still rests in all these products.
