Why snoop on Subhash Chandra Bose's family for 20 years since India's independence?

The topic of last night's news hour was rather unusual because history revelations aren't an every day occurrence in a country like India but Yesterday was one of those days. I present 5 reasons why Jawaharlal Nehru might have snooped on Bose's family for 20 years since india had received independence.

1. His Death.

The date was August 18th 1945. Subhash Chandra Bose was aboard a Japanese flight that had made an unscheduled stop at Da Nang, Vietnam. The reason for this was the plane being overloaded during take off. Some 500 pounds of luggage was hauled off the aircraft and it was refuelled. The plane was now heading towards Taipei, Taiwan and this was a routine stop where passengers ate lunch and the plane was refuelled. During their take off from Taipei, the captain was worried about the port side engine of the air craft and his fears had become a reality. The engine failed leading to the crash. The conspiracy is that Bose's body was never found in the wreckage. This has led many people to believe that he might have fled the crash site. To check whether Bose really died, Nehru kept a close watch over the Bose family to check whether he would return. This could be a reason for the snooping but doing it for 20 years raises more questions.

2. Political competition.

Obviously we know the rivalry between Bose and Gandhi. Since Gandhi was a part of Congress, even Nehru was dragged into this. The All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) was a threat to the British and the then newly formed congress. Since the congress was made to act like puppets of the British crown, the all india forward bloc could have destroyed the plans of the British and given India freedom long before we actually got freedom. The ideals of this party were completely opposite of Gandhi's ideals. Where Gandhi spoke about Non-Violance, the forward bloc wanted to go in all out and attack the British at their most vulnerable. To avoid this the British and Nehru might have decided to keep a close eye on Bose's family to make sure that there isn't anything happening behind their backs.

3. World war tactics.

The fear of the war was dawning during this period as the war was at its climax. Bose has had documented conversations and friendly relations with Adolf Hitler and the British were against the German at the time. Hitler's presence in India could have caused the British to lose power in the sub-continent which was unacceptable to the Englishmen. The British wanted to use Indians as their soldiers so that the actual British soldiers don't have to put their lives on their line. If Bose had received support during the time, we would have been a free country much before 1947. If Bose were to come back, it would be a staunch warning to the British that Hitler might be coming to remove the British from this country. The INA could also turn their backs against the British if Bose would have returned because he was the founder of the organisation and had a lot of respect.

4. Divide and Rule again

The congress symbol on the left adopted in 1980
and the original symbol of AIFB on the left.
This is a theory that came to my mind while watching the Newshour debate on this topic. If Bose were to come back when India was making progress towards freedom then there could have been big issues. Since Bose was against the Congress, he would do anything to overthrow them from their newly acclaimed power. Bose had many followers in India who would give him full support. Due to this there would be a division in the unity of the people of India. People would again start fighting with each other giving the British another opportunity to reestablish themselves in the country and continue to rule on. Maybe thats why a constant eye was kept on Bose's family.

5. An agreement that we don't know about.

Since the British might have wanted to stay in India they might have signed an agreement with Nehru that they would leave the country only if Bose were kept away from the British. Obviously like many other treaties signed between Nehru and the British this would also be just a temporary solution for the British to get some more time to re-establish themselves. Since the congress would have easily believed them, they would have appointed people to keep an eye on the family and also look for Bose around the world incase he didn't die. But congress might have used this to their advantage as they might have understood the state of the British government giving them hope for freedom.

The news paper cutting suggests that if Bose were to enter India then he would be handed over to the British and charges would be pressed against him.

Nehru was only in Power till 1964 but even after Nehru had left the Congress, the snooping went on for 4 years. Pretty strange but their reasons as usual will be un-satisfying. These are just my view points of why the spying on the Bose family. The actual reasons might be different but we would only know if we would go back in Time.
